Time Critical Removal Action (TCRA) at the Training Area 3 MRS, Kimama Training Site, Minidoka/Lincoln County, Idaho – USACE Omaha
KGS performed a Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) Time Critical Removal Action (TCRA) at the Training Area 3 Munitions Response Site (MRS) (KTS-003-R-01) at the Kimama Training Site (KTS) located in Lincoln County, Idaho. The selected remedy for Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) at the Training Area 3 MRS included 100% surface and subsurface MPPEH removal and disposal with Land Use Controls (LUCs)/Long-Term Management (LTM). The selected remedy for munitions constituents (MC) at the Training Area 3 MRS included lead contaminated soil excavation and removal from the western Small Arms Range (SAR) berm and offsite disposal.
Fieldwork included delineating the boundaries of the MRS; performing 100% surface clearance of the MRS (77.8 acres); performing grid-based DGM (50.7 acres); intrusively investigating all geophysical target anomalies; performing mag and dig operations for subsurface clearance in areas inaccessible to DGM equipment (31.79 acres); MPPEH inspection; MEC demolition; and offsite recycling of MDAS. Three MEC items (M407A1, 40mm practice grenades) were discovered during the subsurface clearance of the MRS and a total of approximately 21.21 lbs of MD was removed from the site.
