Radon Diagnostics at NUWC Newport, NS Newport, RI – NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic
KGS completed a radon mitigation project pursuant to the requirements of the Navy Radon Assessment and Mitigation Program (NAVRAMP) for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) at twelve buildings located at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island and in one building located at the Seneca Lake, NY facility. Work included preparation of project plans, performance of an initial radon diagnostic event to assess site conditions, design of various radon mitigation systems, and installation of radon mitigation systems including 31 Subslab Depressurization Systems (SSDs) and 3 Supplemental Air Makeup Systems (SAMs). Repairs and upgrades to existing systems were also completed. Post mitigation radon testing was performed to confirm that the mitigation systems were effective in reducing radon concentration to levels below 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). A completion report was prepared documenting the results of the mitigation effort.
